Maurizio Camerani
TWIN BODIES, 1995
Painted iron, 2 monitors, video, 140x90x55cm
Maurizio Camerani is one of Italy’s pioneers of video art. He was trained at Ferrara-based Videoart Center founded by Lola Bonora. Since the very first beginning of his career, Camerani has been fascinated by those forms of alternative energy related to natural forces. This interest has led him to create sophisticated video artworks with self-alimented plants and photovoltaic panels. Twin bodies, his video sculpture exhibited on this occasion, portrays two bodies immersed into water. Being located in an environment not suitable for human life, they breathe with great difficulty. This work stands as a metaphor for the difficult struggle and survival of each person when estranged from his-her own natural context, and placed in a different environment.
